Some people think that gorillas are very dangerous but don't worry gorillas are perfectly safe and harmless. They will not hurt you unless you harm them or prove yourself as a threat. People think gorillas are very stupid and unorganized, but they follow orders from a dominant male: the silverback gorilla. There are two types of gorillas the gorilinni gorilla that only lives in West and East Africa and 4-5 subspecies like the western lowland gorilla, eastern lowland gorilla, and the mountain gorilla which are all found in Africa. They live in tropical and subtropical regions, and a whole lot of elevations (height from sea level) varying from swamps, marshes, and forests at sea level to mountains, cloud forests, and plateaus as high as 14000 ft. above sea level. There are only two species of gorillas, and their DNA is 98%-99% the same as humans. They are the largest oft he living primates.
Gorillas are herbivores, organisms that eat plants, and foliovores, organisms that eat insects, so they will not kill you. They groom each other at specific times to pick out the bugs in each other's hair and eat them for a snack. Gorillas walk around on their knuckles, so their height is about 5 feet 5 inches for the males and 4 feet 4 inches for females. The males weigh 310-450 lb. and the females weigh 220lb. They all have blood type B and individual fingers, like humans. They reproduce every 3-4 years, they grow up in around 12 years, and live for 30-50 years. The gorilla is an endangered species, so it is important that we do not kill them.
Gorillas seem very dirty and stupid, but they aren't. They pick bugs out of other gorillas' hair and eat them, and they have learned sign language. The gorillas follow the orders of a leader, or a silverback. Silverbacks are always over 12 years old and have a silver patch of fur on their back. They are the protectors of the pack, and if they die, the pack will split up and look for a new silverback gorilla to be their leader.
Male gorillas are about 5'6ft upright and 4'6ft normal stance, female gorillas are about 5'ft upright and about 3'6-4'ft normal stance. Male gorillas weigh about 300-500 lbs, females weigh about 150-250lbs, and baby gorillas are about 20-30 lbs. Male arm span are about 9'2 ft.
