The swordfish is named after its sharp beak. Its streamlined "physique" allows it to cut through water easily but, it does not use its "sword" as a spear. Instead they slash their prey to injure it and make it easier to catch. A swordfish is capable of reaching high speeds of about 50 mph in water to catch its prey.

Like most fish female may grow larger than males. Females mature around 4-5 years and males mature around 3-4 years. Spawning occurs in water warmer than 24°C .
The shortfin mako shark is one of the rare sea creatures big enough and fast enough to chase down and kill an adult swordfish, but they don't always win. A swordfish may ram into a shortin mako shark's gills or belly.
A blue marlin is a fish, similar to the sword fish but it is not exactly the same. A female can grow up to 14 feet long, average sizes are about 11 feet. they can weigh up to 1985lbs.
A swordfish's diet consists of mainly squid. They also eat fish, such as menhaden, mackerel, bluefish, silver hake, butterfish, and herring
