Squirrels

Squirrels belong to the order of Rodentia. It consists of more than 1650 species and that means that it is the largest group of living mammals. There are about 365 species of squirrels in the world. Squirrels are the most active during the late winter. Especially during mating season. During mating seasons male squirrels will chase the female as an attraction. Male as well chase other males to keep them away from there mate. During this ritual of chasing around you can see there amazing acrobatics stunts by moving from tree to tree at Top Speed!  Mating usually takes about 33 days for small squirrels but it takes about 60 days for bigger squirrels like the fox squirrel. Squirrels are mostly born in the late summer when the season is full of warmth and food. Female squirrels can give birth a second time if they have a good food supply. During mating season female squirrels will choose the strongest male. It is most unlikely for the female to mate with the same squirrels again.

Squirrels usually are active for 2-3 hours after sunrise and after that they will just rest for the rest of the day. After dark, squirrels will rarely go out of his/her nest or tree because of the predators that rome in the night like the owl. If a storm brood in a squirrel will not leave its den for a few days. Mostly all squirrels hibernate during winter except for the tree squirrel.

An adult squirrel lives alone in its nest or tree unless if there was a special occasion like a storm came squirrels will huddle around each other to conserve body heat and after the storm stopped the squirrels will go out.

All squirrels eyes are located high on top of there head there eyes are also really big. Squirrels have bigs eyes because they could see mostly in every direction without turning there head. This is really helpful for the squirrel because they could detect a predators right in the corner of his eye. If there was a predator that is about to attack the first thing the squirrel does is to stay motionless.  The squirrel will stay motionless until the predators goes away or it attacks, if the predator attacks the squirrel will rush into the bush or climb up the nearest object that it could find.

Squirrel's diet consist of nuts, fruit, and seeds. Squirrels also eat bird eggs and animal carcasses if there was no other food  source available at the moment. Squirrel's diet also need to have a little salt. They coulld find salt where there used to be salt.

Squirrels sharpem their teeth almost everday. This helps them clean there teeth and make them sharp. A squirrels teeth grow about 6 inches a year. By now you are wondering how long is six inches well here it is.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________. This is how long it grows a year but they sharpen it everyday so the teeth will wear out. So that's why there teeth is so short. Squirrels may sometimes chew on powerline which cause mostly some power outage.
