Saint Bernard!!!!!
BY ALEXANDRA L.

The Saint Bernard is a very big dog and it has a huge head. A male that is full-grown can weigh from 160 to 260 pounds! They can either have a smooth or rough coat, with a smooth coat being close and flat. The rough coat is dense but flat. The Saint Bernards' coat is usually a red color with white. Sometimes it is a mahogany brindle with white. Their tails are long and heavy with the end slightly turned up. Saint Bernards have dark eyes.
The Saint Bernards' ancestors share a history with the Swiss Mountain Dog. These were large farm dogs of the farmers and dairymen of the Swiss Alps. The earliest recording of Saint Bernards are from monks. The original Saint Bernard looks very different from the Saint Bernards of today due to avalanches killing off many dogs used for breeding. The Saint Bernard is a Swiss national dog.The breeds that are very similar to Saint Bernards are the English Mastiff, Newfoundland, and Great Pyrenees.
