Penguins!(Emperor Penguins)

    Emperor Penguins can stand up to about 4ft tall, and weight  70-90 pounds. Emperor Penguins live in the harshest weather on the Antarctic ice. The temperature can go down about to -140 degrees Fahrenheit, they also can live up to 20 years old. After mating the female penguin leaves the male in charge of the egg. During the nine week of the male penguin taking care of the egg, the female goes back to the open sea and eats and brings back food for the new born. Once the female returns from the open sea, the male goes out to the sea and eats. After 7 weeks of caring for the baby chick, the chick forms a group called "cries" and they huddle together and keep warm. Baby penguins can know their parents by there call. The baby chicks are fully grown in about 6 months, which is the beginning of summer in the Antarctic. Then all the penguins go back to the sea. Penguins can not fly....but, their short wings can help them dive up to 900ft, to catch larger fish. They can swim up to 15 kilometers an hour.

            Penguins can stay warm during the long winters because they have layer of feathers and a layer of blubber. The layer of downy feathers traps the air, to keep the body heated and water out. Penguins also have a oil that aids in keeping them dry in the water.
