Leopards are big cat like animals! They resemble the cheetah, and have many similarities! These beautiful and powerful animals are in danger of being extinct!  

They animals live in northeast Africa, Central Asia, India, and China. In Sub Suharan Africa they are just starting to populate, and same with India.

Leopards are mammals, and they only eat meat! Leopards kill there pray, and many times put them in a tree, because leopards are very comfortable in trees. They are nocturnal animals, meaning they can see in the dark! The sometimes stalk their pray at night time. These animals can also swim, and sometimes eat sea creatures. They usually hunt by themselves or with a partner.

Leopard cubs are raised by their mother, who teaches them to hunt, and survive by themselves. After two years of being in mother's care they are on their own. They have instincts that help them know how to hunt. When they are born, they usually come in pairs of two. Their spots are barely visible.

  Leopards are usually light colored, with dark spots. These dark spots are called rosettes. There are things such as black leopards, but they are sometimes mistaken for black panthers because you can’t really see their spots. They can wiegh to about 66-170 pounds.  Wild leopards can live up to 14-15 years and Zoo animals can live up to 15-20 years (if treated well). But snow leopards can live up to 80 years old.
