WHAT THEY EAT: Koalas are fuzzy, gray and white bear-like animals. They live in the coastal region of eastern and south Australia, Queenland, New South Wales, and Victoria. Their main diet is eukalyptus leaves that are poisonus to many species. Eukalyptus leaves are very low in protein, so koalas must eat 1.5 lb a day to get enough protein. Koalas also don't drink water. 90% of their water comes from the leaves they eat. They also eat mistletoes and box leaves.

How long have koalas been on earth???????????
Koala fossils found by scientists have been dated back to 25-40 million years ago. They are very rare and not many are found. John Price was the first european to describe koalas. Australians have also made many legends, myths, and stories about koalas. In 1816, the koala was given its scientific name Phascolarctos cinereus, which means"Ash grey pouched bear". Later in australia, people discovered that koala fur was very soft and would be worth a lot. They then began shooting many koalas for their pelts. In 1924, there were only 500 left of the koala species. By the 1930s, the goverment had put up a "protect the species force" which protected the koalas.
