welcome to stephanies cool page on jaguars
animals.about.com: http://www.animals-images.com/fondos-jaguars.htm

Jaguars are the largest South America's big cats.
Jaguars roamed all around South America.
Today large amount of jaguars are found in only
remote regions of South and Central America.
These beautiful and powerful animals impress
Native American cultures. In some traditions they
worship the Jaguar God of the undrworld. The name
jaguar is derived from the Native American word
yaguar, which means ''he who kills with one leap''.
Unlike many other cats, the jaguar doesnt avoid water;
in fact, they are quite good at swimming. They eat fish,
turtles, or caimans-small aligator like animals. Jaguars
also eat large animals such as deer, tapirs, capybaras,
and peccaries. They climb trees and wait on there prey to
prepare an ambush, killing ther prey with one powerful bite.
Most jaguars are tan or orange with balck spots, dubbed
''rosettes'' because they're shaped like roses. Some jaguars
are so dark, they appear to be spotless, though there markings
can be seen from a closer view. Jaguars live alone, claiming territories
by leaving there wast behind or clawing trees. Baby jaguars are blind and helpless
atat birth, the mother stays with them pretecting the fiercely from any animal
that approaches, even ther own father.
Like tigers, and other small cats, they live close to water. They can eat small crocodiles, due to being a farily good swimmer. The jaguaars have a very large food palate, they also eat tapirs, birds, sloths, turtles, rodents, reptiles, frogs, and deer.

Young jaguars learn how to hunt by living with there mothers for 2 years or more.
Jaguars are still hunte by ther attractive fur. Ranchers also kill them because the cats
sometimes prey upon there livestock. Jaguars are very good hunters; they have powerful
biting muscles and are armed with such a stout, pointed canine teeth, that is the most leathal
bite of any big cats. These big cats are highly sensitive to the slightest sound. Jaguar information
may be found on a hunting farm, usually on private land. The female jaguars are slightly smaller
than the males, the females diet consists other animals such as: deer, rodents, hares, reptiles,
birds, fish, monkeys ect. Jaguars can jump and reach at a very high speed, so they can catch almost
any animal. Life span is only about 15 years for a jaguar, because of the hunting for ther fur and destroying there natural habitat. Therefore they are close to extinction.
