Guinea pigs aren't actually PIGS & they don't come from Guinea either. They happen to be a species of rodent. They are commonly called Cavy. They originated in the Andes & don't exist naturally in the wild. Their biochemistry and hybridization suggests that they are domestic descendants from other cavy species that were closely related to the Guinea pig. In South America, guinea pigs are an important source for food, medicine, & religious ceremonies (yeah... kind of wierd...).

Behavior.

You can tell how guinea pigs are feeling by the sounds the make.

*Whistle*- general excitement, positive OR negative.

*Purring/bubbling*- enjoying itself, like when being petted or groomed

*Rumbling*- scared or angry

*Chutting/whining*- makes this sound when being chased

*Chattering*- a usually sign of a warning

*Squealing/shrieking*- makes this sound when feeling pain or discontent

Diet

Most Guinea pigs eat grass. Some may eat coprophaghy, the eating of their own feces. Others may eat Alafa.

Guinea pigs have allergies, too. It may be fatal if guinea pigs eat buttercup, bracken, bryony, charlock, deadly nightshade, foxglove, hellebore, hemlock, Lily of the Valley, mayweed, monkshood, privite, ragwort, rhubarb, speedwell, toadflax, & wild celery.
