Grizzly Bear
by:Kory M

Grizzly bears are very powerful animals. They are a North American subspecies of the brown bear. The Grizzly is a mammal. You can see gatherings of grizzly bears atthe prime alaskan fishing spots when the salmon run upstream. Grizzly bears are one of the top predators. The Grizzzly bears territory can range between 70 to 400 square miles. There can be more grizzlies in the area, so they might fight over a fishing spot. May to early July is when mating season occurs. Cubsare usually born between January and March. A female Grizzly will usually have 2 cubs. The cubs are furless and blind when they are born. They usually weigh a pound when they are born. The cubsstick with their mother forabout 3 years. They start to climb trees when they are about a year old.

The interesting thing about Grizzlies is that their diet mostly consists of fruits, nuts, berries, leaves, and roots. They also eat other animals, such as moose. Grizzly bears get their traditional name from the grizzled fur they have.Grizzlies usually huntin the early morning and then rest during the day.Grizzly bears can dig a den under rocks or it might dig in a cave. When October comes, the Grizzly goes into its den. There is a layer of fat that keeps them warm. They stay there until early spring.
Grizzly bear - Ursus arctos
Classification
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia

Family: Ursidae
Genus: Ursinae

Due to the grizzlies incredible size, it can run up to 30 mph. Grizzlies can weigh up to 1500 pounds. Grizzly bears might attack humans if they are surprised or if a human gets too close to their cubs. Today, only about 1,000 grizzlies are in the U.S. and they are protected by law. Grizzlies still roam the lands of Canada and Alaska where they are hunted for trophies.I think the grizzly is a fascinating animal.
