Robert T's Giant squid page
The Giant Squid (Architeuthis) is part of the Architeuthidae family. The Giant Squid can average up to 43 feet (for females) and 33 feet (for males). The Giant Squid is the second largest mullusc and the second largest extant invertebrates.
Giant squid feed on deep-sea fish. They catch prey using their two large tentacles, gripping the fish and then using it's suckers. Then the squid bring forth their powerful beak and shred the radula and the esophagus. People believe that they are solitary hunters. Although the giant squid is a fierce animal it has deadly predators. Some predators are sperm whales, pilot whales, deep-sea sharks, and humans.
Giant squid can be found in all the world's oceans. They are usually found near continental and island slopes from the North Atlantic Ocean. They are usually near Newfoundland, Norway, British Isles, Azores, Madeira, around the coast of South Africa, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia.
