The Giant Panda

The Giant Panda is a white and black spotted furry mammal from the family Ursidae. They are carnivores so they don't eat meat. They have a really long scientific name which is Ailuropada Melanoleuca. They live in Eastern China and Mynamar Northern Vietnam. Here they live in mountains and bamboo forests. They have live in these forests for several millions of years. They have unique adaptations to their environment and are a highly specialized animal. They main diet is 99 percent which is bamboo leaves and stems. They are 250 pounds if they are male and 220 pounds if they are female. Suprisingly, they can swim and climb trees. This is becuase they eat and sleep mostly. They forage and eat from 10-16 hours and then they sleep right afterward. They eat about 12-38 kg of bamboo in the long hours they forage and eat each day. When these pandas are babies they stay with their mothers for one and a half years to three years. When the giant panda becomes and adult they become more solitary.

These amazingly cute animals are VERY VERY VERY close to being endangered because there are only about 1,600 left of them. Here are 5 reasons why they are becoming endangered:

-low reproduction rate

-bamboo is being cut down

-poaching for fur

-deforestation(their homes are being cut down)

-circus uses

Did you know?

-In China people call the panda a large bear cat.

-Scientists say that the pandas have a black and white fur to stand out in the forest. This is to find a mate.

-To really know if the giant panda is a type of bear scientists have studied their GENETIC CODE.

-When a baby panda is born the mother does not leave the den to eat or drink.

-A panda bear is ALL white when its born.

-Pandas also use bamboo for shelter.

-Pandas still need to drink water from rivers even though their food IS made of 90 percent water.

-Pandas make a bleating noise just like a bleating goat kid would.

- The giant panda can sleep in trees!

-Male pandas use the "handstand" technique to mark their territory. This will make the panda look taller so when other pandas come alon they will read the "message" not to take their territory.

-They have STRONG teeth to bite into the hard stiff bamboo stalks.

Pretty good. You need to do some proofreading and editing. In the second sentence you state that they are carnivores, they are herbavores. There is also something funy a little later about their ability to climb trees and swim being related to sleeping a lot.
