~What is a fossil?~

The word "fossil" mean having been dug up in latin. Fossil is remain or trace of animal,plant,or any organism that lived long ago. The size of fossils are vary. It can be as small as a cell or as gigantic as a dinosaur. Many fossils were found in the sedimentary rock layers. They are called Index fossil. Index fossil

are usually found in the sedimentary rock. It is hard to determine the age of fossil because sedimentary rock is rock mixed of ages. If there's magma cut through the rock and its cool off and form a igneous rock. It's easier to determine age of fossils with igneous rock cut through.    <--------- Index Fossils

~Types of Fossils~

There are many types of fossils. Most fossils are the remain of an organism hard part such as bone,teeth or shell. There are four main kinds of fossil. They are Molds and Casts, Mineral Replacement, Carbon Film, and Trace Fossil.

Molds and Casts

  A mold is a shape that left over by the organism that was buried in the sediment and later dacay away and leaving a mold. Minerals fill the mold and form the cast fossil.

Mineral Replacement

   Fossils that got preserved by mineral are mineral replacement fossil.

Trace Fossil

  Is the geological record of an organism that lived long ago. Examples are footprint of dinosaurs, feeding mark, root cavaties.
