Down Syndrome

          Down Syndrome is a disorder that is caused by an extra gene. This disorder usually comes with an impairment in brain development and also physical growth. There are some facial characteristics such as an unusually small chin, a round face, an oversized tongue, almond shape to the eyes, short limbs, poor muscle tone,small set ears,one crease on their palms, and a larger than normal space between the big and second toes. People with down syndrome usually have a heart defect. So overall, it is that one gene that affects the human to have the syndrome.

Personal Experience 

     I have had an experience with having a member of my family have Down Syndrome. He was born with it and he was also born with pneumonia and a hole in his heart. His name was Monchee (his baby name, don't make fun of it or I will hurt you!) Unfortunately, he died at the age of 1 year and 5 months. But he is still carried throughout my families' lives.

Random Peoples' Experiences with Down Syndrome

          Sam ~ Sam is an 18 month old toddler who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome when his mother was pregnant with him. He later had surgery to correct a heart defect and a blocked intestine.

          Billy ~ Billy is a 5 year old boy. He also had a heart defect and got surgery to remove it. He has learning difficulties but attends at a Mainstream school.

          Vinura ~ Vinura is an 8 year old boy from Sri Lanka. He was diagnosed with Down Syndrome after 1 year, he is currently attending a special school.
