The Amazing Page of Dinosaurs 

 Dinosaurs are amazing animals that lay eggs.  Because scientists found a fossil of a dinosaur nest with unhatched eggs, they believe the dinosaurs layed their eggs with the wide side farther from the outside of the nest and the pointy side closest to the outside of the nest.  Many babies were found in Korea in the cretasous period when dinosaurs ruled the world.  This was called the baby boom and all types of dinosaurs were born, such as flying dinosaurs, plant eating dinosaurs, and meat eating dinosaurs such as the all mighty T-Rex.

Dinosaurs lived during a time called the Mezozaic Era.  This era consisted of three periods:

Triassic Period 245 to 208 million years ago

Jurassic Period 208 to 146 million years ago

Cretaceous 146 to 65 million years ago

     The T-Rex was the biggest and most powerful dinosaur ever to live.  They were carniverous, which means they only eat meat.  T-rex had two legs that were 40 feet long!!!  Their jaws were 4 feet long and their teeth could grow up to 12 inches long!!!!!  The T-Rex had alligator like skin and it is believed that the T-Rex could run up to 65 mph.  The T-Rex could weigh any where between 5,000-7,000 pounds.  Their arms were 3 feet long and they had running strides from 12-15 feet long.  The T-Rex lived during the Cretaceous period.

The worlds largest dinosaur ever found was in Brazil.  This amazing dinosaur was about 13 yards from head to tail!!!! I think that is amazing!  This dinosaur was part of the Titanosaur group.  Sceintists have found bigger bones than this 13 yard giant but they can't put them together, so they cannot name the species, which means Titanosaur is still the largest to be found and named.  Scientists think the skull of the Titanosaurs are amazing because they have only found about ten other skulls, so this skull really interested them.  I also think the other reason they were so interested in it was because they have never seen a skull so big and they don't see too many Titanosaur skulls and with this one being the biggest ever found must really amuse them.                                                                                                                                            

Terradactyl Species

Terradactyls are small bird like dinosaurs with a wingspan that can only spread out between 20-30 feet.  They lived in the late Jurassic period.  Terradactyls where origanally named Ptero-Dactyles from the man Curvier in 1809.  Another type of Terradactyl is the Dsungaripterus which is smaller than a regular Terradactyl.  The wingspan of this bird like dinosaur is 10 feet.  It has a long narrow pointy beck that curves at the end.  They lived in the cretaceous period.  One more terradactyl is a Pteranodon with an amazing wingspan of 25 feet.  It was 6 feet tall and lived during the cretaceous period.  The last terradactyl I will talk about is the Quetzalcoatlus which is a HUGE dinosaur.  The crazy wingspan of this huge dinosaur is 40 feet long at it ways 110 pounds!  It also lived in the cretaceous period. 

One of The Oldest Known Dinosaurs

The Coelophysis is one of the oldest known dinosaurs that lived in the late Triassic period. This dinosaur was a carnivore and grew to be only 3 to 10 feet tall.  It had the ability to run on its hind legs and had a long neck and tail.  It's name has the meaning "hollow form", and was given this name because of its light, hollow like bones.  Because of its small and light build, this dinosaur could probably run very fast.

Fun Facts

Dinosaurs could live from tens to hundreds of years.  The age is estimated by the regular reptile age of 66. 

Did you know that scientists found out that dinosaurs probably didn't just communicate vocally but also visually too? 

Dinosaurs first came to earth about 230 billion years ago in Argentina and Brazil. 

Dinosaurs were in fact green but more like a camouflage. 

The dinosaurs died out in the cretaceous extinction.  Some scientists think that a giant meteor hit earth and caused a lot of the dirt to fly up into the air, which caused many species to sufficate and die.  One of the species that was killed and became extinct were the dinosaurs.
