         Chipmunks are lively and speedy critters. They are part of the squirrel family, but smaller. So, a chipmunk is actually a type of squirrel, a ground squirrel. They can be gray to reddish brown in color, depending on species. They get their food on the ground in areas that have underbush, rocks, and logs. Their diet consists of insects, nuts, berries, seeds, fruit, and grain, which they stuff into their large cheek pouches and carry to their home to store. Hawks, foxes, coyotes, weasels, and snakes are their major predators. Like certain mammals they, too, hibernate, but they don't store fats because they eat nuts and seeds throughout winter. Chipmunks can be found almost ANYWHERE!

Some facts about chipmunks:

-They are mammals.

-They are omnivores, meaning, they eat both meat and plants.

-If they were to live in the wild, they would last for about 2 to 3 years.

-Chipmunks breate 75 times a minute.

-A chipmunk is able to carry nine nuts at a time.
