What is cancer?
Cancer is actually a group of many related diseases that all have to do with cells. Cells are the very small units that make up all living things, including the human body. There are billions of cells in each person's body. Cancer happens when cells that are not normal grow and spread very fast. Normal body cells grow and divide and know to stop growing. Over time, they also die. Unlike these normal cells, cancer cells just continue to grow and divide out of control and don't die when they're supposed to. check out what cancer really is.
1.What is the difference between a benign tumor and cancer?
Benign tumor- sits in your body and waits to be found. The tumor is USUALLY harmless, but it only can kill if it has affected your brain. Once you find the tumor, you are able to take it out without any harm.
Cancer- an active tumor that affects the organs and can kill if the tumor is not found before it spreads.
2. What causes cancer?
Animals usually get cancer by genes. Some animals are diagnosed with cancer without the "cancer" gene. If an animal is exposed to carcinogen it can also be a way to being diagnosed with cancer.
3. What are some factors?
- Heredity (Boxers get more cancer than any other breed. They are also more likely than other breeds, to have more than one type of cancer. Also, rats and mice are famous for the development of specific cancers in specific related lines.)
- Physical characteristics (Gray horses are more likely to get melanoma) (This is related to heredity.)
- Environment. (Excess exposure to sun can cause skin cancer.)
- Toxins. (Tars cause cancer)
- Physical and mental stress (There is a human personality type which has been linked with cancer. These are people who hold everything in, worry about the world, and present a smiley face to everyone. Universal mothers who don't take care of themselves.) check out this link
4. How can animals prevent cancer?
-
Avoid environmental factors that cause cancer. For example, pink-skinned cats should never go out in the sun, because they often develop skin cancer on ears and nose--areas not well-protected by fur.
-
A second way is to increase the amounts of anti-oxidants in the food. This includes beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, pycnogenol, and others. Anti- oxidants are free radical scavengers (they de-activate free radicals). Controlled medical studies have proven their ability to decrease the incidence of cancer in humans. Co-enzyme Q-10 can also decrease the chance of getting cancer. I think it's about time we start using humans as lab animals and apply the results in animals--so I take these results and recommend that my patients receive extra anti-oxidants, above the amount present in dog or cat food. (This includes home-made diets also.) dr.nancy's page
5. How can they cure cancer?
- surgery
- herbs
-diet changes
-anti-oxidents
- possibly chemotherapy
6. What is the probability of animals getting diagnosed with cancer?
Here in the USA it is 15%or above, but that is only in the USA. SO, imagine the amout of animals getting cancer within the world, so take some time to think about all the animals who have had to suffer through pain being diagnosed with the bad disease of CANCER!
7. Why I chose this topic.
I decided to choose the topic of animal cancer because i had a thought. I thought that maybe animals being abused may have had an effect on getting diagnosed with cancer.Obviously as you have read I was wrong. Although us humans don't get diagnosed with cancer by being abused, animals are not 100% the same as us. They are slightly different in ways just as we humans are.
