The Caspian Seal.

The caspian seal is a small marin mammal, closly related to the harbor, a widespread species of the northern-temperature and boreal of the Northern Hemesphere. Since 2005, the Caspian seal has been reclassified in the geneus of Pusa, and its original designation. The main charecteristics of a caspian seal are they have a body length between 1.4 and 1.8 m (4.6 - 5.9 ft) and they weigh between 50 and 86 kgs (110 - 190 lbs). They are coloured dark grey and they have light coloured spots. Caspian Seals have no subspecies. A subspecies has distinct differences from the species it originates from and they are found in biologically isolated populations.
OTHER ITERESTING FACTS!
The origins of the Caspian and Baikal seals are still debated by scientists. It used to be thought that the ringed seals isolated in Lakes Ladoga, Saimaa, Caspian and Baikal were populations of Arctic ringed seals ((Pusa hispida) which became landlocked in lakes when the ice of the last ice age retreated about 11 thousand years ago. This may, in fact, be the case for the Ladoga and Saimaa seals which are considered to be only subspecies of the Arctic ringed seal. However, recent analysis of mitochondrial DNA suggests that the origin of the Baikal and Caspian seals may be older. It is now thought that Caspian and Baikal seals may have had a common origin with all the seals in the Phocina group (which includes the present-day harbour and grey seals, as well as the ringed seal species), and may have migrated across the continent to the Caspian and Baikal lakes in the late Pliocene, i.e. about 2-3 million years ago. The Caspian seal may even be more closely related to the grey seal than to the Baikal and Arctic ringed seals. All of these species are ice-breeding in origin and have pups which have an infantile (lanugo) white coat (although present-day harbour seals no longer breed on ice, and the lanugo coat is generally shed just before birth).

BABY HARP SEAL

Harp seals or otherwise known as Pagophilus groenlandicus or Phoca groenlandica
The Harp seals live in the arctic close to Greenland. To the seal, living in water is warmer than living on ice.Crab, krill, crustations, capelin, plaice, eels, shrimp, salmon, herring, octopus, flounder, cod, plankton, smelt, anochovies, jellyfish and squid, are what the harp seal eat. When the seal doesn't eat, its teeth won't grow, which would be really bad, because with no teeth, the pup can't really eat. The preditors of a harp seal, are cheaters, the people, are the worst any. They take the seal and shave its luxurious coat, for things the do not need, which kill off there population! Hunters kill many white coats each year.Canadian hunt 282,070 seals were killed. In Greenland 400,000 are estimated dead. And in the North Atlantic 500,000. There is a strong protest against the killing of harp seals. The people find whitecoats and dye the fur. The fur is thus ruined, but the whitecoats are saved. Still, there is a great demand for Harp seals. There are many reasons as harp seals are productive animals
They have short, thick white fur with black patches and a black face. The baby harp seals are all white and are left to survive on their own two weeks after birth. They can live up to be 30 years old.
